Roofing
New roofs, replacements and repairs in asphalt, tile, metal and flat torch-down. We check the roof underneath as well as the covering you can see.

Richmond has more shoreline than any town nearby, and a roof a few streets from the water ages differently from one up in the heights.
What we do
New roofs, replacements and repairs in asphalt, tile, metal and flat torch-down. We check the roof underneath as well as the covering you can see.

We form aluminum and copper gutters at your home to fit each roof edge. If your existing gutters are still sound, we also handle repairs, cleaning and guards to help keep leaves out.

Add daylight to a dark room, replace an old unit or find out why one is leaking. We install VELUX skylights and fit the flashing that keeps rain from getting in around them.

Local conditions
Point Richmond climbs fast from the water, and the houses on those lanes were fitted onto the slope rather than onto a flat pad. Getting materials up to a roof there is part of the job, not an afterthought: a narrow lane, a shared driveway or a long flight of steps decides where a truck can stand and how the old covering comes down. We want to see that before quoting, because a proposal that assumes an open frontage and then meets a hillside lot is the kind of surprise that turns into a change order. Expect the estimate to say where equipment will sit and which areas need to stay clear on the day.
In the Annex and the wartime blocks inland, whole streets went up to one specification and the roofs have aged as a set. That cuts both ways. It means a neighbor replacing a roof is a fair reminder to have yours looked at, and it means the same weak detail, usually the flashing at a wall or a vent that faces the weather, turns up house after house. It does not mean your roof is due. Shade, past repairs and how the drainage was handled leave two identical houses in different condition, so we look at your covering and your deck rather than at the street.
Nearer the water, salt-bearing air reaches the cut edges of metal and the fixings holding it, and a gutter can look sound from the street while the seam inside it is flaking. On the flatter lots the question after that is where the downspouts let go. Several of these blocks drain into old buried lines that nobody has opened in decades, and when one of those silts up the water backs out at the wall rather than running away from it. Following the route past the bottom of the pipe is usually more useful than measuring the trough above it.

On sloping ground, where roof water leaves the downspout matters as much as how it reaches it. Discharge should be planned around the slope and retaining walls rather than allowed to pool uphill of the house. Upper roofs may also drain onto lower ones, concentrating runoff. Ask the installer to consider those connections before selecting gutters and outlet positions.
A house may have had several rounds of roof work, and the visible covering does not tell the whole history. Earlier layers can conceal damaged sheathing or details that were never corrected. Removing old roofing gives access to inspect the deck. Ask what the contractor could see during the visit and how hidden damage would be addressed once the covering comes off.
