Roofing, gutters and skylights in Castro Valley

Redwoods and eucalyptus drop debris throughout the year around Castro Valley's canyon homes, where sloping lots also need a clear route for runoff.

What we do

How we can help

Roofing

New roofs, replacements and repairs in asphalt, tile, metal and flat torch-down. We check the roof underneath as well as the covering you can see.

Rain gutters

We form aluminum and copper gutters at your home to fit each roof edge. If your existing gutters are still sound, we also handle repairs, cleaning and guards to help keep leaves out.

Skylights

VELUX skylights, 10 years leak-free

Add daylight to a dark room, replace an old unit or find out why one is leaking. We install VELUX skylights and fit the flashing that keeps rain from getting in around them.

What we see in Castro Valley

Five Canyons and Palomares Hills have stepped rooflines that send water from an upper slope onto a lower one. That concentrated flow can overwhelm a narrow gutter even when nearby sections drain normally. Around Castro Village, shade over older ranch homes can leave the fascia damp for longer. We check the board and rafter ends before attaching new gutters, along with the roofing above them. The support beneath the metal matters as much as the shape of the replacement channel.

Redwood needles, eucalyptus bark and live-oak leaves create different blockages. Fine redwood debris can pass through slotted covers, while bark strips catch across outlets. In a shaded, foggy position, the buildup stays wet and can collect around mossy roof edges. Cleaning should address the valley and the downspout as well as the visible gutter. If you're considering guards, the debris already on your roof is a useful guide to the openings the cover needs to screen.

On a hillside property, letting a downspout empty beside a foundation post can wash soil away. The discharge needs to follow a planned route, often through a drain line to a suitable collection point. That line also needs to stay clear; fitting gutter protection above it doesn't remove the need to check drainage below. We look at how the roof, outlets and sloping lot connect so that a repair addresses the water's route through the property. For a house with several roof levels, identify the room or entry below the overflow when you request an estimate. It helps connect what you see inside or at ground level with the roof section that needs a closer inspection.

Moss on a shaded slope

Moss can hold damp against roofing and grow between its edges. It needs an approach suited to the covering, because aggressive washing can damage shingles or force water underneath them. Have the roof condition checked before choosing a treatment. Also discuss the shade and overhanging growth that allow the area to stay damp, or the problem may keep returning.

Leaves above the skylight

The raised frame around a skylight can catch debris on its uphill side. Wet leaves and grit held there can obstruct the intended drainage route and keep the flashing damp. Ask for that area to be checked during roof maintenance, not only the gutters below. If staining continues after clearing, the flashing or roof may need a separate repair.
